What is the SAT?

The SAT is a standardized test used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The SAT – is known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test and the Scholastic Assessment Test – is a 3¾-hour long test. Many colleges require scores from the SAT or ACT tests as a part of the admissions process. Your SAT or your ACT score is a key component of your college applications.

The SAT is a multiple-choice created and administered by the College Board. The SAT measures reading, math, and writing abilities important for academic success in college and beyond. It is designed to help predict how well a student can expect to do academically in the first year of college. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers, extracurricular activities, and personal essays.

Overall, the higher you score on the SAT and/or ACT, the more options for attending and paying for college will be available to you. A perfect score on the SAT is 1600 that is made up of a verbal score of 800 on the mathematics section and 800 on the verbal section.
